As we observe International Men’s Day (19 November), it’s a perfect time to spotlight the often-unseen labour of care. Recognising Men’s Contributions Men make invaluable contributions across households—as carers, fathers, grandfathers, and partners. Yet sometimes, health challenges, mobility issues, or changes in life circumstances mean they need support: help with personal care, domestic tasks, or simply companionship. On IMD, we honour these men and acknowledge their strength, resilience, and vulnerability. Why Care Matters In Nottinghamshire, men may be reluctant to ask for help. Cultural expectations often push men to ‘manage on their own’, but needing care is not a weakness—it’s part of human dignity.
